Candied Mashed Sweet Potato Recipe

Mashed sweet potatoes are a favorite. This candied mashed sweet potato recipe is bound to be a favorite of your whole family. The title gives a clue how delicious this one is! Brown sugar and cinnamon give it that candied sweetness. And, it's quick and easy to prepare.

Candied Mashed Sweet Potatoes

Make 8 servings


  • 2 lbs peeled sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 cup lightly salted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon
  • 2 scallions, trimmed and sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped toasted pecans

How to prepare:

  1. In large saucepot, over high heat, bring sweet potatoes and enough salted water to cover to a boil. Then reduce heat to medium, cook covered for 20 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are fork-tender, drain well.

  2. Return potatoes to saucepot. Using a hand masher, or potato ricer, mash potato mixture until smooth.

  3. Stir in butter, brown sugar, bourbon , scallions, cinnamon and chopped pecans. Season with salt and pepper to taste, if desired.

  4. Garnish with whole pecans, if desired.
